Projex were appointed by the Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation as the sole contractor to build a spectacular design by Milk Train – a group of Italian architects, historians and urban designers.
The Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation was founded by Her Highness Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. The aim of the foundation is to invest in initiatives in the areas of education, arts, culture, heritage; and health in order to develop the UAE.
411 is part of the Mina Zayed Abu Dhabi and Projex were given 2.5 weeks to complete the fit-out and transform the empty 411 warehouse into a cutting edge exhibition to showcase the works of emerging artists.
- Client: Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation
- Event: Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship
- Date: November 2015-January 2016
- Venue: Warehouse 411, Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi.
The exhibition’s main aim was to give a double insight into the works made by the artists involved in the Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship.
Customized installations were built to accommodate the artists work throughout the 900 sqm space.
A double height main room was equipped with a flexible series of columns, wrapped with a white and partially translucent fabric hanging from the existing roof structure. At night a hidden lighting system transformed the intruded skylights in a sequence of lanterns. Each column had a customized foot, ready to host media along with sculptures and paintings. Minimal and rough materials including steel, iron panels and stretched metal meshes were used.
A long communitarian table was placed across the entire warehouse exhibition and was used to showcase drawings, documents and photos, keeping the rough edge artistic feel to the environment.
Projex were thrilled and extremely proud to be involved with such a creative space.
