Projex was initially approached about designing a very small temporary exhibition within the Children’s Gallery at The louvre Abu Dhabi to support the main temporary exhibition, Japanese Connections. Also to be aimed at the teenage group.
After the initial design concept, it was quickly established that the space wasn’t big enough to take into account all of the areas and interactive pieces. After consultation with the management team of the Louvre it was agreed we would have a larger space and that they would like us to construct the design as well.
The design was based on the theme of Japanese Culture and in particular the popular art of Manga.
- Client: Louvre Abu Dhabi
- Event: Manga Lab
- Date: September 2018
- Venue: Louvre, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi.
The gallery was split into several areas, each having a specific theme or engaging aspect.
There was a gaming area which consisted of a series of typical retro arcade type of game. This would allow teenagers to appreciate old style gaming away from the modern style of gaming.
Other areas included an expression graffiti wall where guests could express their views and comments and Manga themed creative workshops that included ‘Make your own Manga T-Shirt’ and ‘How to write a Manga’.
Finally, we included a chill out zone for reading and chilling as well as a VR Zone including headsets, where the visitor could walk through a selection of typical Japanese paintings from the main exhibition, appreciating the art.
